St Anthony’s School prepare for the Rock Challenge

St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School had 42 students dance their own choreographed routine ‘The Wonderful life of Moses’ at Rock Challenge competition against scores of other schools across the south.

Although they did not come in the top five, the group was delighted to win an award for best video.

It was down to the talents of William Ashley as a great lighting director and Lucas Datson as a talented videographer working to such a high standard that helped them win the prize. The school also won the Cultural and Education Achievement award for a dance theme which extended into their curriculum.

Year 6 girls choreographed most of the dances from when baby Moses was sent down the river by his mother to when he parted the red sea. They had help choreographing the rest of the routine from deputy head teacher Roxy Ashworth and other teachers.

Donning white and gold Egyptian costumes and bold make up, the performers looked stunning as they took to the stage.

Mrs Ashworth said: “Miss Moody and I are so proud of all the Rock Challenge children. They performed to a very high standard, and considering it was our first year in the competition, we did very well. A big thank you goes to all the children, staff and parents who have helped us along the way. It has been an amazing experience.”
